What does “TerraLoco” mean?
TerraLoco is short for “terrestrial locomotion” – in other words, walk the earth. Our store name reflects that we aren’t “just” a running store. We support walkers, runners, and everyone in between.
Do you just carry running shoes? What kind of other footwear do you carry?
We carry more than just running shoes! We carry a small selection of lifestyle shoes and gym shoes. We also carry hiking boots, sandals, and recovery footwear.
What is your return/exchange policy?
We never want you to be stuck with a shoe that doesn’t work for you. That’s why we have a really generous exchange policy for all FULL PRICE footwear. You have 30 days to try the shoes, even wear them outside and run in them. If they don’t work, you can exchange them for another pair or return them for STORE CREDIT (which never expires).
Footwear and apparel that is unworn may be returned for a full refund in the form of the original payment method within 30 days of purchase.
Can I return or exchange nutrition products?
Unfortunately we are unable to accept returns on nutrition for any reason.
Do you have shoes for walking? For work?
Yes! While most of the shoes we carry are technically categorized as “running” shoes, all running shoes can be used to walk and most customers prefer this style of shoe for work as well. In addition to traditional running shoes we can also help you get a leather shoe or one with a non-slip outsole if needed.

Do you collect old shoes? If so, where do they go?
Yes! We are happy to help you find a new place for your old shoes. Please bring in ANY athletic shoes and we will distribute them to the appropriate place. Gently worn shoes will be donated to a local organization in need. All other shoes are sent to a recycling program. Sorry, but we can ONLY take athletic shoes. We cannot accept hiking boots, slippers, sandals, or dress casual footwear.
What is shoe drop and why does it matter?
You’ll often hear us talking about the drop on a shoe. Drop (or offset) is the difference in stack height between the forefoot and the heel. Think about a pair of heels – you have a ballet flat with no difference in height, all the way up to a 2” heel where you have a HUGE difference between the heel and forefoot. In running shoes, this difference is in millimeters, but it can still make a big difference.
Historically, running shoes have had a 10mm+ drop. This was because most people were heel strikers – so having most of the cushion in the heel made sense. Over time we’ve learned that a mid-foot strike is better, and many people have been making the transition to a lower heel to toe drop to help facilitate that movement. We still have several models with 8-10mm drops, but a lot of options in the 5mm drop range, as well as options with a 0mm drop (like Altra).
The drop on the shoe can affect where you strike/land, the flex of your foot and ankle, stability, your plantar fascia and more. We talk through all of these things with you to determine the best drop for your feet & gait.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No, we do not offer appointments at this time. We always have at least two staff members in the store who can do a gait analysis and make footwear recommendations.
If you have special needs and would like to request an appointment outside of regular store hours, please reach out and we will be happy to accommodate you. info@runterraloco.com
Why don’t you carry more colors or sizes?
We do our best to carry colors and sizes in store that we know we will sell. When every shoe comes in 10 different colors, it’s impossible to carry every size in every color. Based on previous season sell-thru and national data, we select sizes and colors that we think will sell. But we can almost always order you a shoe in another size or color that we don’t have in the store.
Can you order a size, color or style you don’t have in the store?
Certainly! We use our brand’s warehouse sites to see current availability. If it’s available, we can probably get it. Some exceptions apply to styles we don’t normally carry, but we are willing to work with you to get you what you need.
I have a hammer toe/bunion. Can you help me?
Absolutely! We often suggest a higher volume shoe to accommodate hammer toes. People with bunions often need something with an extra wide toe box. We have both high volume and wide toe box options in a variety of brands and styles.
Can you help me figure out what shoe I should be wearing?
Absolutely – in fact, that’s the main reason we are here! Our expert staff members will evaluate your gait by either walking or running, assess your arch height and foot shape, and ask you lots of questions about your needs, injury history, and goals. Using all of this information, we’ll narrow down the choices for you. We know it can be overwhelming to see everything that is available, so we make it easy for you!
How does a gait analysis work?
One of our expert staff members will have you walk or run for us while looking for over or under-pronation. This short & simple evaluation takes about 5 minutes and will help us figure out what type of shoe will be best for your feet & gait.
How long does a typical visit last?
Some customers spend three hours picking out the perfect pair of shoes and some folks go with the very first pair they try on and are out the door in 15 minutes. The average person typically spends about 30-45 minutes with us. This includes the gait analysis & evaluation (5-10 minutes) plus time to try on several pairs of shoes.
